ATLANTA, April 6 (UPI) -- Martin Brodeur registered 19 saves Tuesday, notching his 600th career win and lifting the New Jersey Devils to a 3-0 victory over Atlanta.
Travis Zajac, Dean McAmmond and Zach Parise tallied for the Devils, who with the win established a two-point lead over Pittsburgh for first place in the Atlantic Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference.
The Devils got all the scoring they would need at 4:32 of the first period when McAmmond left a drop pass for Dainius Zubrus, and then went to the left of Atlanta goalie Johan Hedberg and tipped Zubrus' return pass into the net.
The game also featured the first appearance of Ilya Kovalchuk's in Atlanta as an opponent. The Thrashers traded him to the Devils Feb. 4 after spending his entire career with Atlanta.
Hedberg made 24 saves as the Thrashers lost their third straight game and saw the playoff hopes evaporate with Philadelphia's Tuesday win over Toronto.
