PITTSBURGH, April 5 (UPI) -- Garrett Jones had two home runs Monday, Ryan Doumit produced a three-run shot and Pittsburgh rolled over the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-5.
The Pirates took control with a five-run fifth inning to grab an 8-2 lead. None of the homers came during that frame, which included a three-run double by pinch-hitter Ryan Church.
Zach Duke survived five innings to get the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits. It was Pittsburgh's third opening-day victory in the last four years, but the Pirates are seeking their first winning campaign in 18 seasons.
Jones hit a two-run homer in the first to overcome an early 2-0 deficit and added a solo shot in the second. Doumit's blast finished off the scoring in the eighth.
Vicente Padilla was roughed up for seven runs on six hits with three walks in 4 1/3 innings.
