MILWAUKEE, April 5 (UPI) -- Ian Stewart helped Milwaukee build a 4-0 lead with a solo homer Monday and the Colorado Rockies survived a shaky ninth inning to defeat Milwaukee 5-3.
Colorado closer Huston Street began the season on the disabled list with shoulder problems and Franklin Morales was called on in the ninth to save the victory for Ubaldo Jimenez.
Morales gave up a run and had another runner in scoring position with one out, but got both Prince Fielder and Jim Edmonds on line drives to the infield. Jimenez allowed a run on eight hits with six strikeouts over six innings.
Yovani Gallardo suffered the loss while giving up four runs on seven hits in seven innings.
Both Jimenez and Gallardo were starting on an opening day for the first time in their careers.
Milwaukee stranded 11 men, going 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
