Miami Heat flight diverted

MINNEAPOLIS, April 4 (UPI) -- The Miami Heat's chartered flight home from Minneapolis was diverted early Sunday when a crew member slipped into a diabetic coma, a team spokesman said.

The Miami Herald reported the Heat's plane made an emergency landing at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport about 1:30 a.m. and the ailing flight mechanic/engineer was taken to a hospital.

Heat guard Dwyane Wade sent a Twitter message to his followers seeking prayers for the sick crew member. "God bless this man and his family," Wade tweeted.

Team trainers Jay Sabol and Rey Jaffet treated the mechanic while they were still in the air, the Herald said.

A Heat spokesman confirmed the emergency landing, which came after Miami defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 97-84 for its eighth straight win, and said the team resumed its flight to Miami shortly before 2:30 a.m.
