COMMERCE CITY, Colo., April 4 (UPI) -- Brian McBride connected on a 51st-minute penalty kick Saturday, pulling the Chicago Fire into a 2-2 tie with Colorado.
After Marvell Wynne fouled Collins John in the area, McBride's shot went to the right. Rapids goalie Matt Pickens dove for the ball but it sailed inside the post for McBride's first tally of the year.
Colorado got goals from Omar Cummings and Conor Casey, each of which gave the Rapids the lead. But John countered Cummings' score and McBride's tally gave Chicago its second tie of the game 6 minutes into the second half.
The tie for Chicago (0-1-1) was the first point for its new coach Carlos de los Cobos, while Colorado (1-0-1) was unable to follow up on its season opening 1-0 win at Chivas USA.
