ANAHEIM, Calif., April 3 (UPI) -- Pavol Demitra scored the deciding goal in a shootout Friday, Michael Grabner had a hat trick and Vancouver reached the playoffs by downing Anaheim 5-4.
The Canucks clinched a post-season berth just by getting into overtime, but they added a win for good measure when both Kyle Wellwood and Demitra produced shootout goals.
Vancouver, which halted a four-game skid, needs one more victory or a loss by Colorado to clinch the Northwest Division title.
Grabner scored once in the second period and twice in a span of 2:33 of the third to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead. Teemu Selanne tied it at 3-3 with his second goal midway through the third and Jannik Hansen put Vancouver back in front with 6:27 to play.
Saku Koivu, however, tied it once more for the Ducks, who had a five-game home winning streak snapped.
Corey Perry opened the shootout with a goal for Anaheim, but Andrew Raycroft stopped the next two shots while Wellwood and Demitra were creating the victory.
Raycroft made 30 saves and Curtis McElhinney stopped 37-of-41 shots.
