TORONTO, April 1 (UPI) -- Luke Schenn and Fredrik Sjostrom scored third-period goals Thursday, lifting the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-2 decision over Buffalo.

Buffalo missed out on a chance to clinch the Northeast Division title by losing to the last-place team in the Eastern Conference.

Schenn broke a 2-2 tie 8:30 into the final period with an unassisted goal and Sjostrom scored into an empty net with 37 seconds remaining.

Viktor Stalberg and Garnet Exelby also scored for the Maple Leafs and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves in the victory.

Ryan Miller stopped 33 shots for Buffalo, which has clinched a playoff spot and can finish anywhere from second to fifth in the conference seedings.
