NEW ORLEANS, March 31 (UPI) -- Mike Miller helped Washington open a late 15-point lead Wednesday and the Wizards held on to end a 16-game losing streak -- 96-91 over New Orleans.
The Wizards won for the first time in March to snap a franchise-record skid. They were one of two teams to halt a 16-game losing streak Wednesday, joining the Minnesota Timberwolves in ending a long stretch of futility.
Miller scored 27 points and Andray Blatche chipped in 23. Washington built its 15-point cushion with 4:22 to play and New Orleans closed its deficit to three in the final seconds.
The Hornets had a chance to tie it, but David West missed a 3-point try with 8 seconds remaining and Miller then hit two free throws with 5 seconds left for the final margin.
West led New Orleans with 18 points.
It was Washington's 10th road victory in 28 tries.
