UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 30 (UPI) -- Vinny Prospal got a goal and an assist and the New York Rangers exploded for three second-period goals Tuesday to defeat the New York Islanders 4-3.
Prospal's tally early in the second period launched a Rangers comeback that saw them turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. He later assisted on the Rangers' final goal, which gave the Blue Shirts a 4-2 advantage in the final frame.
Olli Jokinen, Marian Gaborik and Marc Staal all added goals for the Rangers, who with the win remained in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, four points behind Philadelphia, Montreal and Boston with six games to go.
Henrik Lundqvist rebounded from a shaky first period in which he allowed two goals on nine shots, saving 18 of the last 19 he faced to secure the win.
The Islanders got two goals from Blake Comeau and one from Mark Streit in the loss.
