ASHBURN, Va., March 29 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins have signed veteran cornerback Phillip Buchanon to a one-year deal, team officials said Monday.
An eight-year pro, Buchanon collected 43 tackles and posted one sack, two forced fumbles and four passes defended in 13 games for the Detroit Lions last season.
"We are very excited to add a veteran corner, such as Phillip, to our defensive backfield," Redskins head Coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has had a lot of success in this league and brings with him the ability to create turnovers."
In 105 career games with the Raiders, Texans, Buccaneers and Lions, he has notched 339 tackles and 18 interceptions. Five of the pick-offs were returned for touchdowns.
Buchanon has one career sack and six forced fumbles.
