WASHINGTON, March 28 (UPI) -- Rene Bourque tallied a goal and a pair of assists Sunday to pace the Calgary Flames to a 5-3 decision over Washington.
Ian White contributed a goal and an assist while Jay Bouwmeester, Niklas Hagman and Ales Kotalik each found the net for the Flames, who kept their playoff hopes alive with their second win in five games.
The victory enabled the Flames to pull with four points of Colorado for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Calgary pumped in four goals in the first period to put the contest away early.
Alex Ovechkin scored a goal and added a helper while David Steckel and Mathieu Perreault each lit the lamp for the Capitals, who pulled goalie Jose Theodore after giving up three goals on 10 shots in the first period.
Washington remained on the verge of clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference, needing only a loss by New Jersey to secure home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Devils play at Philadelphia Sunday.
