McCaffery named Iowa men's hoops coach

IOWA CITY, Iowa, March 28 (UPI) -- The University of Iowa has hired former Siena coach Fran McCaffery to lead its men's basketball team, school officials said Sunday.

McCaffery will replace Todd Lickliter, hoping to improve on the 38-58 record he compiled during the past three seasons.

Under McCaffery, 50, Siena has gone 112-51 during the last five seasons, winning the MAAC Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons. The Saints reached the national tourney's second round in 2008 and 2009.

This season, Siena went 27-7, losing to Purdue in the first round.
