BOSTON, March 27 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas turned aside 31 shots Saturday, notching his fifth shutout of the year and boosting the Boston Bruins to 5-0 rout of Calgary.
Boston's long-suffering power play awoke in the contest, as David Krejci, Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg each scored a power-play goal. The Bruins had gone 0-for-22 on the man-advantage in their past eight games.
Boston put the game away in the third period when Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi tallied 1:27 apart. The Bruins' win was their third in four games and put them four points ahead of Atlanta for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff allowed five goals on 29 shots and was replaced by Vesa Toskala, who made saves on all six shots he faced.
