RALEIGH, N.C., March 27 (UPI) -- Johan Hedberg notched 34 saves Saturday, posting his second shutout of the season and boosting the Atlanta Thrashers to a 4-0 win over Carolina.
Rich Peverley, Evgeny Artyukhin, Jim Slater and Niclas Bergfors each lit the lamp for Atlanta, which with the win moved to 78 points on the season, pulling to within two points of Philadelphia and Boston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Thrashers' cause was aided when the Flyers were dominated 4-1 by the Penguins earlier Saturday.
Carolina's Manny Legace kept the game close early when he made 18 of his 39 stops in the first period, which ended in a scoreless tie. But the Thrashers put the game away by putting three into the net in the middle stanza.
