MARTINSVILLE, Va., March 26 (UPI) -- Steady rain Friday forced the cancellation of qualifying for Sunday's running of the Sprint Cup Goody's 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.
Qualifying for the race has been rained out three of the last four years.
Because no qualifying session was possible, the starting lineup was set by owner points.
That put Kevin Harvick on the pole since he is the leader in the point standings. He has a mere one-point lead over Matt Kenseth, who will start on the outside pole.
Four-time Sprint Cup series champion Jimmie Johnson will start third, followed by Greg Biffle and Tony Stewart. Johnson has won five of the last seven races at Martinsville.
Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Paul Menard and Kyle Busch rounded out the top 10.
Although no rain is expected Saturday, the forecast for Sunday calls for a 90 percent chance of precipitation.
