TAMPA, Fla., March 23 (UPI) -- Martin St. Louis' second goal, an overtime snap shot, was the game-winner Tuesday as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed Carolina 3-2.
St. Louis corralled a pass from Andrej Meszaros, deked around Carolina defenseman Brett Carson and put a shot past Hurricanes goaltender Manny Legace into the top left corner of the net only 29 seconds into the extra frame.
The Bolts' Steve Downie had tied the game on a power-play goal with 6:57 left in regulation to force the extra time. Antero Niittymaki made 27 saves in the Tampa Bay win.
The Hurricanes' goals came from Erik Cole and Chad LaRose, who scored 18 seconds apart late in the second period.
