
LOS ANGELES, March 23 (UPI) -- Drew Doughty scored on the power play 3:40 into overtime Monday and the Los Angeles Kings beat Colorado 4-3.
The Kings led 3-2 in the closing seconds of regulation but T.J. Galiardi forced the extra period with his 13th goal of the season, assisted by Paul Stastny and Peter Mueller.
Ruslan Salei was called for cross-checking at 3:21 of overtime and Doughty cashed in the opportunity to give the Kings their second straight win. LA has 89 points and is tied with the Nashville Predators for fifth place in the Western Conference.
The loss left the Avalanche in seventh place in the conference with 87 points.
Ryan Smyth had two goals and Wayne Simmonds scored one for the Kings, who got 18 saves from Jonathan Quick.
Mueller had a goal and an assist, Galiardi and Chris Stewart each scored a goal and Craig Anderson finished with 19 saves for Colorado.
