
TAMPA, Fla., March 21 (UPI) -- Alex Ovechkin celebrated his return from a suspension with a goal, lifting the Washington Capitals to a 3-1 win over Tampa Bay.
Ovechkin's tally -- his 45th of the year on a breakaway -- put the Caps ahead 2-1 with 9:31 to go in the first period. The Washington superstar was playing his first game since serving a 2-game suspension for injuring Chicago's Brian Campbell on a reckless hit last Sunday.
Tomas Fleischmann and Alexander Semin each netted goals while Jose Theodore made 33 saves as the Capitals moved closer to securing the President's Trophy for best NHL regular season record. Washington now 106 points -- 10 more than both Chicago and San Jose.
Vincent Lecavalier got the Lightning's only goal while Antero Niittymaki made 25 saves in the defeat, their fourth straight.
