
GLENDALE, Ariz., March 21 (UPI) -- Radim Vrbata's shootout goal lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday.
With the win, Phoenix boosted its point total to 95 points and got to within one point of San Jose for first place in the Pacific Division.
Vrbata beat Chicago goalie Antti Niemi with a backhand shot into the top of the net, and the Coyotes' Ilya Bryzgalov iced the win when he blocked Patrick Sharp's stuff attempt in the bottom of the third shootout round.
Phoenix got two goals from Lee Stempniak while Adrian Aucoin and Wojtek Wolski each had a goal and an assist. Bryzgalov made 34 saves in the win, the eighth straight for the Coyotes, who haven't won that many consecutive games in 10 years.
Patirck Kane notched a goal and an assist while Sharp, Andrew Ladd and Troy Brouwer each found the net for the Blackhawks, losers of four of their last five. Niemi made 31 saves in the defeat.
