NASHVILLE, March 21 (UPI) -- Cody Franson's shot from the right point 1:54 into overtime found its way into net, lifting the Nashville Predators to a 1-0 win over Columbus.
The rookie defenseman snapped a shot that trickled through Columbus goaltender Steve Mason to give Nashville its fifth straight win.
The Predators' strong late season has put them in fifth place in the Western Conference standings with 87 points, one point ahead of Colorado and two in front of Los Angeles.
The winning goal came seconds after Preds goalie Pekka Rinne robbed the Blue Jackets' Mike Commodore with a glove save. For the game, Rinne made 33 saves to notch his second consecutive shutout and sixth whitewash of the season.
Mason ended with 30 saves for Columbus, which has lost 14 straight games in Nashville.
