JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 21 (UPI) -- Nolan Smith scored 20 points Sunday, helping top-seeded Duke down California 68-53 in a second-round NCAA Tournament South Region game.

Kyle Singler chipped in with 17 points while Brian Zoubek netted 14 and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Blue Devils (31-5) reached the Sweet 16, where they will face either Purdue or Texas A&M.

Duke overcame a poor shooting day by leading scorer Jon Scheyer, who managed only 1-for-11 from the field and was a meager 1-of-8 from 3-point territory, mustering only seven points.

No. 8 seed Cal (24-11) was led by Jamal Boykin with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Jerome Randle notched 12 points and Theo Robertson 10 in the defeat.
