LOS ANGELES, March 19 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi made 17 saves and claimed his fifth shutout of the season Thursday to bring the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-0 victory over Los Angeles.

Niemi appeared in only three games for Chicago during his rookie campaign of 2008-09. This was his 27th outing this season and he has won 19 of them.

The Blackhawks were held off the scoreboard until Troy Brouwer tallied on a wrist shot with 8:24 remaining in the second period. Tomas Kopecky then scored twice during the first 6 minutes of the third to give Niemi and the Blackhawks a cushion.

Chicago halted a three-game losing streak.

Jonathan Quick allowed three goals on 37 shots.
