PALM HARBOR, Fla., March 19 (UPI) -- Padraig Harrington highlighted a big day for former major champions Friday and took the lead midway through the Transitions Championship golf tournament.

Harrington shot a 6-under 65 over the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club course and his 36-hole total of 134 gave him a one-shot advantage.

Half of the Top 10 players on the leaderboard have major titles to their credit.

Harrington has won two British Opens and a PGA Championship. Former U.S. Open champions Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk shared second place at 135 with Bubba Watson and Carl Pettersson.

Steve Stricker, the second-ranked player in the world, was at 136 along with Jeff Maggert and one-time PGA winner Steve Elkington.

David Toms, another PGA champion, was tied for ninth with Jonathan Byrd at 137. Toms had the low round of the tournament, an 8-under 63. Harrington's score was his lowest of the season.

John Daly, who is trying to regain full playing status on the tour, made his second consecutive cut by firing an even-par 71 for a two-day total of 141. Daly also survived the cut last week in Puerto Rico.
