RABAT, Morocco, March 19 (UPI) -- Rhys Davies shot a career-best 8-under-par 64 Friday and plowed into the lead halfway through the European Tour's stop in Morocco.
Davies didn't have a bogey en route to his 64, which moved him to 13-under after 36 holes. He owns a two-stroke lead over Ignacio Garrido, Thomas Levet and Louis Oosthuizen, with three other golfers, including first-round leader Nick Dougherty, at 10-under.
The Trophée Hassan II is contested in the first two rounds on the Red and Blue courses of the Royal Golf Dar es Salaam in Rabat. The final two rounds will be played on the Red Course, considered the tougher of the two.
Davies, starting the day tied for eighth, played his second round on the shorter Blue Course and attacked quickly. He had birdies on four of his first six holes. He added a birdie at No. 10 and moved into the lead with three birdies over Nos. 14-17.
"It went great," Davies said. "I rolled some really good putts in and overall it was a good day's work."
