OKLAHOMA CITY, March 19 (UPI) -- Marcus Morris led a second-half surge Thursday that pushed Kansas to a 90-74 victory over Lehigh in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The top-seeded Jayhawks had only a two-point lead in the final minute of the first half, but Sherron Collins and Tyshawn Taylor both made layups to give Kansas a 35-29 advantage at the break.
Kansas then dominated the second half while boosting its record to 33-2 and setting up a second-round Midwest Region meeting with Northern Iowa.
Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams, No. 1 seeds have been unbeaten against 16th-seeded teams. Kansas and Kentucky kept that streak alive Thursday. Duke and Syracuse will attempt to do the same thing Friday.
Morris made 12-of-15 shots from the field and paced Kansas with 26 points. Sherron Collins added 18.
Kansas hit 55 percent of its shots from the field and cashed in on 9-of-21 attempts from 3-point range.
Lehigh -- which won the regular-season title and the tournament crown in the Patriot League -- finished at 22-11. The Mountain Hawks were led by C.J. McCollum with 26 points.
