JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 19 (UPI) -- Kyle Singler scored 13 of his 22 points in the first half Friday and helped power top-seeded Duke past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 73-44 in the NCAA Tournament.

Duke's defense throttled the outmanned Golden Lions, who had defeated Winthrop on Tuesday to earn a shot at the Blue Devils.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff went scoreless during a 4-minute stretch of the first half and wound up going 6-of-24 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Singler led Duke (30-5) to a 51-percent shooting effort and the Blue Devils made 6-of-13 from 3-point range.

Jon Scheyer added 13 points for Duke, which is making its 15th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and is the No. 1 seed in the East Region.

Tavaris Washington scored nine points for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (18-16), which finished second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and then won the league's tournament over Texas Southern.

This is the 11th time Duke has reached 30 wins in a season. The Blue Devils have won 13 times in their last 14 first-round tournament games.
