NEW ORLEANS, March 18 (UPI) -- LaceDarius Dunn scored eight straight second-half points Thursday, helping No. 3-seeded Baylor claim a 68-59 NCAA tournament win over Sam Houston State.
Baylor (28-5) heads into Saturday's second-round play in New Orleans against 11th-seeded Old Dominion, which was a 51-50 winner over sixth-seeded Notre Dame Thursday.
Sam Houston State (25-8) was able to stick close to Baylor through much of the game and the score was tied at 55-55 with 3:48 left after the Bearkats' Ashton Mitchell made a short shot.
But the Baylor Bears took the lead with a dunk by Quincy Acy, off an assist by Dunn, and stretched the lead to 63-55 with consecutive baskets and two free throws by Dunn with 1:06 left.
After the Bearkats' Josten Crow made a shot, Dunn added two more free throws that put the game out of reach for Sam Houston State.
Dunn's hot streak accounted for the bulk of his 13 total points. Ekpe Udoh led Baylor with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Sam Houston State got a game-high 23 points from Gilberto Clavell.
