PHOENIX, March 17 (UPI) -- The Arizona Cardinals and former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson have agreed on a two-year deal, the team said Wednesday.

Anderson has caught on with the Cardinals after being released recently by the Cleveland Browns. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but ESPN reported it is worth $7.25 million, including $3.25 million in guaranteed money.

"A fresh start was something I wanted," Anderson told reporters on a conference call. "Getting out of Cleveland and competing and kind of proving I can play."

The Arizona Republic reported Anderson is expected to back up Matt Leinart but will also get a shot at the starting job.

Anderson in 2007 earned a trip to the Pro Bowl after passing for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns with Cleveland, but lost his starting job to Brady Quinn in 2008 and started just seven games in 2009.
