CALGARY, Alberta, March 16 (UPI) -- Tomas Holmstrom's third-period goal was the game winner Monday in the Detroit Red Wings' 2-1 win over Calgary.

Pavel Datsyuk scored the other Detroit goal and Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots for the Red Wings, who won their third consecutive game and ran their lead over the Flames to three points for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

Craig Conroy scored a goal and Miikka Kiprusoff was 26-of-28 in goal for Calgary, which has lost two games following a four-game win streak.

Holmstrom scored the decisive goal with 1:19 left in the game when a slap shot by Johan Franzen caromed off Holmstrom's stick into the net.
