NEWARK, N.J., March 15 (UPI) -- David Clarkson had a goal and an assist and Zach Parise notched the eventual game-winner Monday as the New Jersey Devils hung on for a 3-2 win over Boston.
Rob Niedermayer scored for New Jersey and Martin Brodeur recorded 34 saves as the Devils won their third in four games and moved to within two points of Pittsburgh atop the NHL's Atlantic Division.
The Devils put the game away with two quick goals late in the first period. Clarkson's tally with 2:37 remaining gave New Jersey a 2-0 lead on a long lead-out pass from Brodeur.
Less than a minute later, Parise gave the Devils a 3-0 advantage on a backhander past goalie Tim Thomas.
Blake Wheeler ended with a goal and an assist and Patrice Bergeron added a third-period goal to pull the Bruins to within a goal, but Boston couldn't score at the end of the game with an extra attacker.
