NEW YORK, March 14 (UPI) -- Da'Sean Butler hit a layup with 4.2 seconds left Saturday, lifting No. 6 West Virginia over No. 22 Georgetown 60-58 in the Big East Tournament title game.
The Mountaineers (27-6) secured their first conference tournament championship in the exciting win. Butler ended with 20 points and six rebounds while Wellington Smith notched 11 points and 10 boards in the victory, West Virginia's sixth straight.
Georgetown star center Greg Monroe was held to tournament-lows of 11 points and six rebounds for the Hoyas (23-10) while Chris Wright connected for 20 points and dished off seven assists. Wright, however, couldn't score on a potential game-tying layup attempt at the buzzer.
The Hoyas failed in their bid to win a Big East-record eighth tournament title.
