INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 13 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki came from a set down Friday to defeat Vania King and reach the third round of the BNP Paribas Open.
Wozniacki, a finalist at the U.S. Open last year, rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory that set up a third-round meeting with No. 32 seed Maria Kirilenko.
Kirilenko advanced with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Virginie Razzano.
This was the first day seeded players were in action at the 96-player tournament and No. 4 Elena Dementieva also had to go three sets before reaching the third round. She defeated Olga Govortsova 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Dementieva will next play Kirsten Flipkens, who got past Aleksandra Wozniak 6-1, 6-2.
The day's biggest surprise came when seventh-seeded Li Na lost to Elena Baltacha 7-6 (10-8), 2-6, 7-6 (9-7).
