SAN JOSE, Calif., March 13 (UPI) -- Bryan Allen's goal 2:46 into overtime Saturday lifted the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 victory over San Jose.
The Panthers' Shawn Matthias won a faceoff in the left circle drew it back to Allen who flipped a wrister toward the net. It snaked through a screen set up by Matthias and found its way past Sharks netminder Thomas Greiss for the win.
Allen and Matthias each ended with a goal and an assist while Florida got another goal form Keith Ballard. The Panthers notched their fourth win in five games as Tomas Vokoun made 37 saves.
Florida remained six points behind Boston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
San Jose got goals from Patrick Marleau and Ryane Clowe in the loss, while Greiss stopped 25 shots.
