
BURLINGTON, Vt., March 13 (UPI) -- Marqus Blakely scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds Saturday, pacing Vermont to the America East Tournament crown with an 83-70 win over Boston University.
With the win, the Catamounts (25-9) advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005, when they scored a memorable upset win over Syracuse in the first round.
Nick Vier chipped in with 15 points and Maurice Joseph contributed 13 as Vermont captured its fourth AEC championship.
Boston University (19-13), coming off an upset of top-seeded Stony Brook in last week's semifinals, got 24 points from Corey Lowe. Top BU scorer John Holland was held to just 3-of-11 shooting, finishing with only nine points.
BU was making its making its first visit to the AEC title game since a 56-55 loss to Vermont in 2003.
