
LAS VEGAS, March 13 (UPI) -- Tre'Von Willis made two free throws with 10 seconds left Friday, securing a 70-66 win for UNLV over No. 15 BYU in the Mountain West semifinals.
The outcome completed a night of surprises that left UNLV and San Diego State to battle for the conference tournament title on Saturday. San Diego State upset No. 8 New Mexico in the first semifinal 72-69.
Willis finished with 18 points, hitting 5-of-9 shots from the field and all six of his foul shots. The Rebels improved to 25-7, getting 17 points from Chace Stanback and making 54 percent of its shots from the field.
Jimmer Fredette scored 30 points for the Cougars, but he made only 7-of-20 shots.
Brigham Young, with a 29-5 record, will be expecting an NCAA Tournament at-large berth when the field is announced on Sunday.
