Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BUFFALO, N.Y., March 12 (UPI) -- Josh Harding made a season-best 43 saves Friday and took a shutout into the third period in carrying Minnesota to a 3-2 victory over Buffalo.
Thomas Vanek scored twice in the third for the Sabres, the second goal coming with 1:52 left in the game. Harding held on, however, to help the Wild halt a four-game losing streak.
Andrew Ebbett, Andrew Brunette and Guillaume Latendresse scored for Minnesota, which has won 22 games at home this season but only 10 on the road.
Patrick Lalime gave up three goals on 33 shots to take the loss. Lalime has gone 0-4-1 since his last victory, which came on Dec. 29.
