TULSA, Okla., March 12 (UPI) -- Randy Culpepper scored 21 points Friday in leading a No. 21 Texas-El Paso team that wasn't really pushed in a 75-61 Conference USA Tournament win over Tulsa.
UTEP (26-5) moves into Saturday's C-USA finals against the winner of the second semifinal Friday in which Houston played Southern Mississippi.
Culpepper scored five early points and the Miners were up 7-2. They pulled away from there, building a 35-25 lead by halftime. Tulsa got the deficit to nine points early in the second half, but that lasted about 20 seconds before Culpepper dropped in a layup. The Golden Hurricane didn't get closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Culpepper made 8-of-13 shots from the floor -- all five of his misses coming from 3-point range -- in finishing with 21 points. Arnett Moultrie, who hit 8-of-10, added 18 points. As a team UTEP hit 51.9 percent for the game.
Justin Hurtt managed 22 points and Jerome Jordan chipped in 11 points and 15 rebounds for Tulsa.
