BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 12 (UPI) -- C.J. McCollum scored 20 points Friday in helping Lehigh to the Patriot League Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament bid with a 74-59 victory over Lafayette.
Lehigh (22-10) qualified for the NCAA Division I Men's Tournament for the fourth time. It will be the team's first NCAA appearance since 2004, when the Mountain Hawks were beaten in the play-in game by Florida A&M.
McCollum hit a 3-point shot 32 seconds into the game and passed to Dave Buchberger with his another 30 seconds later to send Lehigh off and running.
The Mountain Hawks led throughout but Lafayette did get within 44-42 with a short Jeff Kari shot. McCollum answered with a field goal of his own that set off a 7-0 run, with another Buchberger 3-pointer putting Lehigh ahead 51-42.
Buchberger's third 3-point shot of the game finished the final Lafayette threat. The Leopards scored just one point over the final 5:15.
Lafayette (19-13) got 16 points from Ryan Willen and 10 from Kari.
