COL BKB: Georgetown 80, Marquette 57

NEW YORK, March 12 (UPI) -- Greg Monroe scored 23 points and claimed 12 rebounds Friday, sending No. 22 Georgetown into the Big East finals with an 80-57 win over Marquette.

Georgetown, seeded only eighth in the 16-team tournament, reached the conference championship game for the third time in four years.

The Hoyas (23-9) will take on either West Virginia or Notre Dame in the title contest on Saturday.

Georgetown put together a 14-1 run in the closing minutes, turning a five-point advantage into a 70-52 cushion with 5:32 to go.

Chris Wright and Jason Clark both had 15 points for Georgetown, which fell to Marquette 62-59 on Jan. 6. Marquette had downed the Hoyas in their previous three meetings.

The Eagles (22-11) were led by Jimmy Butler with 17 points.
