GREENSBORO, N.C., March 12 (UPI) -- Kyle Singler scored 10 consecutive Duke points Friday in firing the No. 4 Blue Devils to a 57-46 ACC Tournament victory over Virginia.
Duke (27-5), the tournament top seed and defending champion, earned a semifinal berth against Miami (Fla.), which beat Virginia Tech 70-65. The ACC semifinals are Saturday.
Virginia (15-16) was tied with Duke at 33-33 3 1/2 minutes into the second half when Singler took control. Over a span of 2:35 he connected with a pair of 2-pointers and two 3-pointers, the last of which came after a Virginia basket, and put the Blue Devils ahead 43-35.
The Cavaliers managed to get within 46-44 with a 3-pointer from Mustapha Farrakhan at the 6:24 mark but Duke scored the next 11 points as Virginia only scored two points -- free throws with 25 seconds to play -- the rest of the way.
Singler had 18 points and led all scorers. Duke also got 15 points from both Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith. Jeff Jones and Mike Scott led Virginia with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
