MIAMI, March 10 (UPI) -- Dwyane Wade led a parade of Miami players to the free throw line Wednesday and the Heat held on to down the Los Angeles Clippers 108-97.
Miami, which built an 18-point lead going into the fourth period, remained in a tie with Charlotte for the seventh and eighth post-season spots in the Eastern Conference.
Wade scored 27 points and made 15-of-17 attempts from the foul line. Miami made 29 free throws overall to 10 for the Clippers.
Jermaine O'Neal contributed 19 points for Miami, winner of four out of five. Michael Beasley had 15 and Mario Chalmers 12.
It was the opening contest in a six-game Miami homestand.
Los Angeles, losers of five straight, was led by Rasual Butler with 31 points.
Miami set the tone for the game by opening the contest on a 14-3 run.
