PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 9 (UPI) -- Test results show that New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes has an overactive thyroid, the team confirmed Tuesday.
Officials at the team's spring training home in Port St. Lucie, Fla., said Reyes would remain in New York to undergo additional blood testing. The results should be available Thursday, they indicated.
Reyes had shown encouraging progress in his rehabilitation from an October surgical procedure to repair a hamstring tear, displaying no trouble running during the single intersquad game he has participated in this spring.
Reyes appeared in just 36 games last season for New York because of his hamstring problems. He owns a .286 batting average, with 63 home runs, 325 RBI, 301 steals and 73 triples in 791 career games with the Mets.
