NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Colorado right wing Chris Stewart was selected the NHL's No. 1 star of the week, the league said Monday.
The NHL names three players for its weekly awards. Stewart is joined by Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos and Florida defenseman Bryan McCabe as its honored players for games played March 1-7.
Stewart posted the best week of his NHL career, scoring five goals and assisting on four others in four games. He scored on a second-period penalty shot Saturday against St. Louis in notching his first NHL hat trick.
Stamkos extended his points streak to 16 games with five goals and an assist in three games. He had two goals Saturday, putting him over the 40-goal mark for the season.
McCabe had a goal and seven assists while helping the Panthers go 2-1-0 last week.
