CHICAGO, March 7 (UPI) -- A breakaway goal by Pavel Datsyuk highlighted a five-goal outburst, carrying the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-4 victory over Chicago Sunday.
After the Blackhawks had forged a 2-0 first-period lead, the Red Wings exploded for five straight tallies in the middle stanza, with Brian Rafalski, Nicklas Lidstrom, Jason Williams and Valtteri Filppula finding the net before Datsyk's capper.
Chicago's Cristobal Huet was chased after the surge, yielding four goals on 17 shots. Antti Niemi replaced him in nets and made seven saves the rest of the way.
Andrew Ladd notched a hat trick for the Blackhawks in a losing cause, including two in the third to pull Chicago to within a goal. But Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard held firm, stopping 28 of the 32 shots he faced.
