Roethlisberger linked to new assault case

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga., March 6 (UPI) -- Georgia police say Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been linked to the alleged sexual assault of a college student in Milledgeville.

Though Roethlisberger was not named by the alleged victim, the young woman described her alleged attacker as 6 foot 5 and about 241 pounds, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Roethlisberger left the state Friday, but state investigators say they expect he will be available for an interview in the next couple of days, the Journal-Constitution said.

The quarterback denies the allegation, and has spoken with Milledgeville police, Roethlisberger's agent said in a statement.

An attorney for the quarterback said Roethlisberger would give the Georgia Bureau of Investigation the names of all the people who were with him when the incident is alleged to have occurred, Tom Davis, special agent in charge at the GBI's Milledgeville regional office, said.

Police said Roethlisberger, 28, and his 20-year-old accuser visited several bars late Thursday before the alleged attack, the newspaper reported, adding the unidentified woman claims she was "sexually assaulted or sexually manipulated" by a man.

The woman was treated and released from Oconee Regional Medical Center.

The assault allegedly took place between 11 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 a.m. at the Capital City nightclub near downtown Milledgeville and the Georgia College & State University campus, police said.

The newspaper reported one unnamed woman said she saw the alleged victim sitting near Roethlisberger in two bars. She said she did not see him do anything inappropriate to the young woman, and other women also were around him.

It was the second time Roethlisberger was linked to a sexual assault. A woman claimed she was raped by Roethlisberger in a Lake Tahoe, Nev., hotel room in 2008. No criminal charges were filed, but the woman, Andrea McNulty, filed a civil suit against Roethlisberger seeking an apology and $440,000.
