Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

WASHINGTON, March 6 (UPI) -- Jose Theodore notched his first shutout of the year, stopping all 30 shots Saturday to lift the Washington Capitals to a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers.
The win marked Theodore's 29th career whitewash and was the first time the Rangers had been blanked since Jan. 23 against Montreal. He made eight saves in the third period.
Eric Fehr added a goal and Eric Belanger registered his first marker for the Caps since being obtained from the Minnesota Wild as Washington won its third in a row and eighth in 11 games.
Alex Auld made his New York debut in the contest after being picked up off waivers from Dallas. He made 26 stops for the Rangers, which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.
