Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, March 4 (UPI) -- Jordan Staal's second goal, coming 3:42 into overtime Thursday, lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers.
New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made a career-best 50 saves but could not stop Staal's game-winning slapshot. Staal scored on the power play after Wade Redden was sent to the box for hooking.
Evgeni Malkin assisted on the winning goal, giving him at least one point in 15 straight games. That equals his career best, established two seasons ago.
Pittsburgh allowed only 16 shots, but Marc-Andre Fleury gave up four scores on a dozen shots before being replaced by Brent Johnson in the second period. Johnson had to stop just four shots the rest of the way.
The Penguins rallied from a two-goal deficit. Mike Rupp brought Pittsburgh within one with 5:37 left in the second period and Alex Goligoski tied it by tipping in a shot with 8:01 to go in the third.
New York had won its previous three games.
