NEW ORLEANS, March 3 (UPI) -- Rudy Gay stole the ball and slammed home a dunk just before the buzzer Wednesday to secure a 104-100 victory for the Memphis Grizzlies over New Orleans.
Mike Conley scored 26 points for Memphis, but with the Grizzlies holding a 102-100 lead he missed two free throws with 10.7 seconds remaining.
Given a chance to tie or win the game, New Orleans put the ball in the hands of James Posey. He dribbled up the right side of the court, but was defended closely by Marcus Williams and his pass was intercepted by Gay, who headed uncontested to the basket for the clinching dunk.
Memphis won in New Orleans for the first time in 10 tries. Zach Randolph added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who jumped past New Orleans into fourth place in the Southwest Division.
Marcus Thornton scored 24 points for the Hornets, who have dropped three straight.
