SACRAMENTO, March 2 (UPI) -- Former Sacramento Kings star Chris Webber is facing a $3 million lawsuit from the landlord of his now-shuttered restaurant, documents indicate.
Webber's Center Court With C-Webb in Natomas, Calif., closed in November. Now Promenade, owner of the Promenade at Sacramento Gateway Shopping Center, is claiming the former NBA star owes it the money under the terms of a 20-year lease, the Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday.
The newspaper said Promenade is seeking $1.8 million from Webber and partner Jeff Dudum of Dudum Sports and Entertainment, as well as another $1 million to help re-lease the property, $134,997 in overdue rent and other charges.
Webber and Dudum reportedly signed the lease with the shopping center's former owner, the now-bankrupt Opus West Corp.
The Bee said neither Webber's spokeswoman nor Dudum returned calls for comment. It said the restaurant is very near Arco Arena, where Webber played for the Kings for nearly seven seasons.
