Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CINCINNATI, March 2 (UPI) -- Scottie Reynolds pumped in 17 points and Corey Stokes added 14 Tuesday to stake No. 9 Villanova to a 77-73 victory over Cincinnati.
Reggie Redding chipped in with 11 for Villanova (24-5, 13-4 Big East), which won for just the second time in five games. Antonio Pena, Mouphtaou Yarou and Corey Fisher each added 10 points in the win.
Rashad Bishop's basket got the Bearcats to within one point at 66-65 with 2:48 to play but Redding responded with two free throws before hitting a trey to keep it a two-possession edge for Villanova.
Yancy Gates was able to connect on a pair of free throws for Cincinnati with 1:11 to go but the Bearcats (16-13, 7-10) were unable to score again.
Bishop scored 19 points while Deonta Vaughn added 18 and Gates put in 13 in the defeat.
